What is 17-4PH STAINLESS STEEL?
17-4PH (UNS S17400) is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel that combines high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and toughness. As with other martensitic grades, it is magnetic and can be hardened through heat treatment, a clear distinction from ferritic stainless steels, which are magnetic but cannot be strengthened this way and generally provide better oxidation resistance yet fall short of austenitic grades in broader corrosion resistance. This makes 17-4PH well suited for demanding, precision applications in aerospace, nuclear, petrochemical, and medical industries.
